District & Circle. (early 1990's)
A true story from when I was a London Heroin addict, which I wrote the morning after hearing the sad news of the death of a friend. The District & Circle Line is an underground trainline which goes round and round and round inner London like a carousel. The accompanying drawing was also made on the same day. Happily times have changed, and I'm 12 years clean, with an 11 year old daughter and a new baby due early june. Life goes on.
This a poem about addiction to alcohol and how hard it is to be a recovering alcoholic.
A Septolet poem The septolet has fourteen words. It is broken between two stanzas that make up the fourteen words. Each stanza can have seven words each but that is not a requirement. Both stanzas deal with the same thought and create a picture.
I wrote this one day when I was feeling down. It's an extended metaphor on taking something that would make me change how I am to be popular. Turns out, that's not who I am and it didn't go very well.
Everyone falls into temptation some good, some bad, some uncertainty... and overwhelming feeling of euphoria, lust, love, and confusion...
Written from the abuser's perspective...
I looked for you like a addict high on crack
