poemsandpictures.co.uk — After writing poetry for the past twenty years I was encouraged by friends, family, editor, and publisher to share some of my work. I see poetry as freedom and a chance to express what you feel without being judged. There are many poets I hold in high esteem for various reasons, like William Henry Davies and Christina Rossetti who are amongst some of my favourites. I place my words on to my photography (hence the name poems and pictures). I write bespoke poetry for any occasion. Prices are available on request and start from £100. My poetry book Thoughts & Feelings is available to buy just click on the link. Am currently writing my second collection.

wplevents.org — Since 1989, Talking Gourds has offered a venue for Four Corners poetry in many different incarnations. It’s been a state poetry conference sponsored by the Telluride Institute, a Telluride Writers Guild poetry gathering at Faraway Ranch near Telluride, a Norwood Writers Guild wilderness poetry gathering on the Uncompahgre Plateau, and now a free open-mic and poetry performance event sponsored by the Wilkinson Public Library in Telluride. And it’s currently partnered with a number of community co-sponsors – Telluride Writers Guild, Norwood Writers Guild, TelluArts, Telluride TV, University Centers of the San Miguel and Between the Covers Bookstore. Talking Gourds occurs on the first Tuesday of every month at the Wilkinson Public Library. At 6 p.m., co-hosts Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer and Art Goodtimes sit down with the guest poet for an interview that explores their background, aesthetics and various related topics. Then at 6:30 p.m., the guest poet reads before a local audience in the library’s program room. The interview and performance are videotaped, live-streamed on the local community television station, and shown real-time to participating libraries in the region. The Wilkinson videotapes are archived and will be available for a course in regional poetry to be offered seasonally by the local adult education center, as well as for circulation to library users. After the interview and performance, and without the camera eye, Goodtimes leads performer, host and audience in a Gourd Circle reading – a kind of “open mic” where a “Talking Gourd” is passed around a circle (similar to the Talking Stick tradition, except with a male/female partnership object rather than a purely phallic symbol) and each participant gets to speak, tell a story, perform a poem, or sing a song to the listening group. For more information on the symbolism of the pumpkin/rattle/gourd complex, see Dolores LaChapelle’s discussion of gourds in Sacred Land, Sacred Sex, Rapture of the Deep: Concerning Deep Ecology and Celebrating Life (out of print but available on Amazon).
